The Nos Galan Committee is pleased to announce the main sponsors for the virtual challenge 2020. Three local organisations, who have supported the race for many years will continue to support the Races despite the coronavirus pandemic forcing the event to be held in a very different way this year.
The Committee is also pleased to welcome CRX Compression as a sponsor and supporter of Nos Galan the Virtual Challenge 2020.
Normally, over 10,000 spectators and around 2,000 competitors from all ages and abilities head to the town of Mountain Ash for the New Year’s Eve Road Races, however, due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the current guidance on social distancing and mass gatherings, the Nos Galan Committee took the unprecedented step of taking Nos Galan to a digital platform for 2020.
Once again, Llantrisant-based constructions and support services provider Prichard’s; RCT-wide housing association Trivallis; and Amgen Cymru, which is based in the Cynon Valley but provides waste management services across the County Borough and beyond, will be supporting the event. CRX Compression, who are part of the Nos Galan event sponsors for the first time, produce medical grade compression products designed to promote optimum recovery and improve performance.

Councillor Andrew Morgan, Leader of Rhondda Cynon Taf Council and member of the Nos Galan Committee, said: “Of course, we are all hugely disappointed to not be able to gather in Mountain Ash on New Year’s Eve to experience the excitement and the atmosphere that the Nos Galan Road Races brings each year. However, the Virtual Nos Galan has seen a huge demand, with all 2,600 available places claimed within a week of registration opening.
“Despite the challenges faced this year, it is hugely pleasing to see so many competitors continuing to support Nos Galan, and, on behalf of the Nos Galan Committee and the Council, I’d like to extend my thanks to all of those who have registered.
“A huge thank you must also once again go to our sponsors and supporters who have helped to ensure that the Virtual Nos Galan can take place in this truly unprecedented year. I know that 2020 has presented some significant challenges for businesses across the country and beyond, so to see the three local organisations continuing to support the event during this climate is hugely appreciated and is testament to the popularity of Nos Galan.”
Ian Thomas, Chief executive at Trivallis, said: “Adverse weather conditions and the COVID-19 pandemic have seen Trivallis, like many other businesses, adapt services in order to keep tenants and colleagues safe. In these challenging times, I have been overwhelmed by the support shown from partner organisations like RCT Council, and the commitment to our communities shown by my colleagues at Trivallis.
“We have been a very proud sponsor of Nos Galan for a number of years now and it’s great to be able to continue to support this iconic community event for 2020. The Committee has done a great job to adapt and ensure this important tradition can still be honoured.
“I want to wish the best of luck to everyone taking part out in the community as we continue to play our part in keeping Wales safe.”
Nigel Wheeler, Director of AMGEN Cymru and Group Director for Prosperity, Development & Frontline Services at RCT Council, added: “AMGEN Cymru are once again proud to support Nos Galan, even more so during these unprecedented times which have seen the event taking the historical step of moving to a virtual platform for 2020.
“On behalf of AMGEN Cymru, I’d like to wish all of those competing in this historical event the very best of luck.”
Tom Prichard, Managing Director of Prichard’s, said: “Prichard’s are proud to be able continue their support of the Nos Galan Races this year. This will be a very different and monumental year for the races and 2020 has certainly been a difficult year for us all, that is why, more than ever, it is important that we all continue to support one another in every possible way. We send our best wishes to everyone taking part."
