National Adoption Week

Rhondda Cynon Taf Council is supporting National Adoption Week (October 12-18) and is encouraging people to talk about the prospect of adopting.

One of the best ways to find out more about adoption is to hear from people who have been there and done it. To mark National Adoption Week, a Truth Be Told: Adoption Stories podcast has been produced, featuring a group of adopters from across Wales who share their experiences with each other, from the first steps to post-adoption support.

Councillor Christina Leyshon, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, said: “Wales has an increasing number of children who are currently awaiting adoption, all hoping to be introduced into safe and secure family environments.

Every child deserves the right to be part of a loving and caring family, which is why Rhondda Cynon Taf Council is proud to be once again supporting National Adoption Week.

I am sure many of our residents would consider becoming adopter parents, willing to make a lifelong difference to a child who may not have experienced so far in their lives what most other children take for granted.

There is lots of support and advice available and I urge anyone considering adopting a child to make contact today. It is a detailed process, but the journey will be well worth it - your decision could make a real difference to a child awaiting adoption.

The adoption process can be a long and emotional road, but the reward at the end makes it all worthwhile. Do your research, speak to the right people and be prepared. Once you understand each step in the adoption process, you will be able to enjoy your personal journey. And you won’t be making it alone…there's always help at hand.

The National Adoption Service promotes and supports best practice in adoption across Wales. If you are considering adopting or want more information, call 0800 023 4064 or visit www.adoptcymru.com
