Breakfast clubs

Breakfast Clubs are traditionally run in schools and are regarded as an extra-curricular activity to support learning and attendance, not formal childcare.

The Council's free Primary School breakfast club initiative recognises how important it is for children to have a healthy, nutritious and filling start to the day, to improve concentration during lessons.

Breakfast clubs tend to run from 8am to the start of lessons and help improve attendance and punctuality, while also allowing children to socialise with others before lessons begin. Breakfast Clubs are also extremely useful for parents who start work early.

Many childminders and nurseries also provide care for before and after the school day.
