Bank Holiday for State Funeral of Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II

Prior to bank holidays, festive holidays, or in the event of bad weather, we will endeavour to update this page with the latest information on the availability of Council services, road and school closures.

Bank Holiday Opening Hours for the State Funeral of Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II 

The Government has announced that there will be an additional bank holiday on Monday 19th September to mark the occasion of the State Funeral of Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

As a result of the this a number of services will be affected across the County Borough.

The Council will be closed on Monday 19th September – this applies to ALL major services aside from out-of-hours emergencies. Details of the services available and their opening hours are detailed below. 

If the service area you are looking for is not highlighted below, please see individual pages or websites for details of their opening hours over the Bank Holiday period. 

You can still access a wide range of online services during this period, however residents are reminded that the request may not be processed until 'offices' re-open on Tuesday 20th September 2022.

Bins and Recycling

Recycling and Waste collections WILL CHANGE this Bank Holiday.

There will be NO COLLECTIONS on Monday 19th September. If your collection was scheduled to take place on Monday, please leave your items at your normal collection point on Tuesday 20th September - this applies to all recycling, including nappies, food and green waste.

W/c 19th September, with the exception of Monday 19th September, we are advising residents to place their recycling and waste out on their normal collection time/day. The crews will endeavour to minimise disruption as much as possible. If your items are not collected on your normal collection day, please leave them at the kerbside and we will get to you as soon as possible. If needed the crews will also be working over the weekend to collect any outstanding recycling and waste. 

Please do not report a missed collection during this time as the teams are doing their best to get to you as soon as possible. 

All Community Recycling Centres are CLOSED on Monday 19th September and will re-open on Tuesday 20th September.

The Shed, Re-use facilities are CLOSED on Monday 19th September and will re-open on Tuesday 20th September.

Social Care

If you need to contact a member of the Social Care team during this time, please use the following numbers:

Meals on Wheels

The team will support its clients during this period and a menu has been provided to all clients to pre-order a frozen meal for Monday where needed.

Registrars

The Register Office, Municipal Buildings, Pontypridd will be CLOSED on Monday 19th September. Normal service will resume on Tuesday 20th September 2022.

Cemeteries and Bereavement Services

The main office (Glyntaff) will be CLOSED on Monday 19th September. Normal service will resume on Tuesday 20th September 2022.

There are currently no changes in place for Cemetery grounds during this period.

There are sometimes exceptional circumstances when we have to close the cemeteries to vehicles at short notice.  

If it is necessary to close a cemetery to vehicles, a notice is placed on the Cemetery gates advising the public. As soon as it is safe to do so the Cemetery gates are opened to vehicles.  

The cemeteries can be accessed by pedestrians when closed to vehicles but we would urge people to exercise caution when visiting our cemeteries in adverse weather and to ensure they wear appropriate clothing and footwear to avoid falls and injury.  

Leisure Centres

ALL leisure centres will be CLOSED on Monday 19th September. Normal service will resume on Tuesday 20th September 2022.

Parks and Public Spaces

ALL parks across the County Borough will be OPEN as normal. 

  • Toilets situated in Ynysangharad War Memorial Park are open Monday - Sunday 8:30 am - 7pm
  • Toilets situated in Aberdare Park and Dare Valley Country Park also remain open, 7 day a week 9am until 4pm.

ALL Schools will be CLOSED and school transport will be cancelled on Monday 19th September.

All residents are reminded they can contact the Council with an emergency issue on 01443 425011 during the Bank Holiday period and out of hours/inclement weather, which is open 24-hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week.
