Due to the tremendous response to our request for volunteers, we are not looking for any more volunteers at this present time.

Dear Volunteer,

Thank you very much for your enquiry to be a volunteer with Rhondda Cynon Taf (RCT) Council during these extremely challenging times.

The Council is aware that many of you will be wondering what has been happening with your request to volunteer, so thought it helpful to update you on the current position.

The Council has received over 1,100 volunteer requests over the last few weeks, which is a phenomenal response to the fight against Covid-19. In respect of this level of submission, all volunteers are subjected to a Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check before they can commence any volunteering work, and the Council’s staff has made contact with over a 1,000 volunteers within the last few weeks to progress this matter.

As I am sure you will understand it is a challenge to keep in touch with each volunteer on a regular basis until your DBS application is completed and returned to the Council.

There are also many of you who since your initial volunteer submission, have informed us that you cannot volunteer at present. In these circumstances, the Council will therefore keep your records on file for a short period of time so if your position changes, you can let us know.

When your DBS has been completed you will receive a certificate and at that stage the Council’s front line staff, who are coordinating this key work within the community will be informed of your clearance and availability to start work.

At present, the Council is successfully managing its essential services by deploying its existing workforce into key roles. However, the volunteer workforce may be called on to help provide vital support to the existing workforce and wider community of RCT.

Due to the fantastic response, the Council may find itself in the fortunate position where not all of you may be required, certainly in the short term. If this should be the case the Council will keep your details on file, and contact you should the situation change.

Furthermore, if you are required and willing to support other community groups in the area, who are working in partnership with the Council, then we will contact you to obtain your permission before providing them with your contact details.

Finally, we would like to sincerely thank you all for the tremendous response to our request for volunteers, it is heartening to see that so many residents of RCT are keen to help those in greater need at these difficult and challenging times.
