The Royal Mint is steeped in history. In 2018 it celebrated the 50th anniversary of its move from Tower Hill, London, to Llantrisant in Rhondda Cynon Taf.
This milestone is a mere drop in the ocean when you consider the 1100 or so years of its existence track the history of Britain through its wars and political upheavals, its social and economic progress, its technological and scientific advances. Its history is in short woven into that of Britain itself.
A one of a kind experience
During your visit, you will learn more about where coins and medals are made and you’ll be able to see part of the process for yourself (look out for the coin tip – it’s our favourite!). You can even strike your own coin if you wish. At the end of the tour visitors can peruse the visitor centre at their leisure. This is a fascinating part of the experience and has activities and information for all ages. Light refreshments and meals are available in the café and mementos can be purchased from the gift shop as a reminder of your visit.
