Your Right To Vote – Take Part In Annual Canvass

Elections

To comply with the requirements of the Representation of the People Act 1983, the Council’s Electoral Services Department is currently carrying out an Annual Canvass of electors to ensure all those eligible to vote in forthcoming elections are able to do so.

The Annual Canvass is a review of the electoral register. Conducted by law, it requires that the Rhondda Cynon Taf Electoral Register is checked and updated.

If you have not already had one, you will be receiving a letter or email soon asking if your household's details on the RCT Electoral Register are correct. All you need to do is follow the instructions carefully and you will be ready to have your say in all forthcoming elections

There have been changes as to who is able to register to vote in Wales - ALL 16-year-olds and 17-year-olds are now able to vote in Senedd elections and local government elections.

This means that 14-year-olds and 15-year-olds living in your household can now be added to the Electoral Register so that from the day they turn 16, they will be eligible to vote and have their say in the democratic process.

ALL foreign nationals that are legally living in Wales are now also able to vote in Senedd elections and local government elections. Previously, only British, Irish, Commonwealth or EU citizens have been eligible.

It is important that you do not ignore the Annual Canvass as this may affect your right to vote.
