People often find comfort in placing a memorial for a loved one. Memorials come in many different forms and in Rhondda Cynon Taf we offer a wide range of memorials in an effort to meet the individual needs.
At Glyntaff Crematorium there is a choice of the following memorials:
Rose bushes have been planted throughout the grounds. In some gardens, remains may be placed adjacent to such rose bushes. It is possible to memorialise a Rose bush and have an inscribed plaque attached to the bush. The plaque can be inscribed with more than one name, although the space is limited to ten lines and only one plaque is permitted per Rose bush.
The memorialisation lasts for a ten year period at a cost of £222.00 including a plaque of up to 50 letters/figures. After ten years, the applicant has the option of renewing the memorialisation for another ten years.
Memorial tablets are placed throughout the Crematorium grounds, alongside pathways and in front of Rose bush borders. The space for the tablet is leased on a 10-year basis, for the cost of this please see our fees and charges. The tablets can be purchased from an approved Monumental Mason. After ten years the applicant has an option of renewing the memorialisation for another ten years.
Book of Remembrance
One of the most beautiful and lasting forms of memorial is the Book of Remembrance. This is displayed in the Book of Remembrance Viewing Room, which has been constructed within the New Memorial Gardens. The building is of a traditional design to blend into the existing classical features of the Crematorium and creating a beautiful and tranquil place to remember.
Within the Book of Remembrance, there is a page for each day of the year and the name of a loved one may be recorded in the book under the date of a special significance – i.e. birthday, anniversary, as well as the date of death. The Book is open in a secure glass cabinet in the viewing room daily, on the day’s date. Inscriptions can be seen at other times by arrangement with the office.
Also available in Book of Remembrance Viewing Room are flower stands where flowers can be left for loved one and message cards to accompany the flowers. Visitors may like to bear in mind that at busy times, such as Christmas and Palm Sunday the flower stands are quickly filled and visitors may need to supply their own containers.
Entry to book of remembrance outside office hours
The Book of Remembrance is currently protected by a security system for its safe keeping. If you require access during holidays, weekends, or outside office hours please telephone 01443 402810.
Please also note that the Book of Remembrance is removed and locked away every evening approximately half an hour before closing.
Miniature books of remembrance and memorial cards
Miniature Books and Memorial Cards are also available. Both may contain a copy of the inscription as it appears in the Book of Remembrance, inscribed by the same artists and craftsmen. They are suitable for sending to relatives and friends who may be unable to visit the Crematorium or as a personal keepsake.
Miniature Books are hand-bound, covered in grey suede and the cover embossed with the word “Remembrance”. In addition to the page containing the inscription there are several blank pages suitable for other keepsakes, such as a favourite poems etc.
Memorial Cards are available in three designs – a) wild rose b) poppies c) embossed. They contain one or two inscriptions from the Book of Remembrance.
Miniature Books and Memorial Cards are normally despatched with four weeks of receipt of order.
Other memorials including benches
There is also the facility to place a range of memorials in our cemeteries. The size and type of memorial permitted is dependant on the cemetery and the plot within the cemetery. For more information on this please contact the appropriate cemetery office.
Memorials range from a tablet on a cremation plot to large elaborate memorials on traditional sections. Memorials must comply with Cemetery regulations and must be fitted by an approved Monumental Mason.
Please note the placing of memorials is subject to approval from the Local Authority and the registered grave owner.
