Penderyn Quarry Line Trail

Hirwaun-icons-web-box

This linear route follows the journey of the former Penderyn Quarry Line which transported minerals from Moel Penderyn to the Hirwaun Ironworks.

The now tranquil route, was once a hive of activity with tonnes of limestone and silica rock transported through the Penderyn and Hirwaun countryside. Pair with the Hirwaun Audio Trail (point 4 on the map) and listen to the stories of the 'ghost' of William Bryant - once a worker of Hirwaun Ironworks.

The 3.2km route departs from Penderyn village, home to the Penderyn Whisky Distillery (a must visit) and follows the old quarry line alongside the River Cynon to Hirwaun before finishing at the Ironworks.

Please note the route is flat, though there may be some uneven terrain, with gravel in parts.
