A new year brings the launch of an exciting year of live shows and movies to suit all tastes at the historic and iconic Coliseum Theatre, Aberdare, and the Park & Dare Theatre, Treorchy.  

Councillor Robert Harris, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council Cabinet Member for Public Health and Communities, said: “I am delighted that we have such a varied programme of top-class live entertainment to suit all tastes coming to our theatres this year.  

“It is wonderful that such big names of stage and screen are performing locally, a lasting testament to the success of both the Coliseum Theatre and the Park & Dare Theatre, both of which have been such an important part of our communities for many years.  

“As well as all these exciting live shows, and many more throughout the year, we also have a packed programme of top movies for all ages planned.  

“So please support your local theatres and come and see your favourites, right here on your own doorstep – it’s going to be a great year!”  

Kickstarting the live shows at the Coliseum Theatre is Buffy Revamped: Seventy Minutes. Seven Seasons. One Spike on Saturday, April 1 (8pm). Created by Brendan Murphy and fresh from a smash-hit run at The Edinburgh Fringe, this fast-paced new production brings the entire 144 episodes of Buffy, The Vampire Slayer, the popular TV show from the 1990s, to the stage.  

Sound And Vision: A Tribute To David Bowie, on Friday, May 5 (7:30pm) celebrates the music and the life of a pop icon, featuring all of his hits through the decades.  

A Vision Of Elvis: The Award-Winning Elvis Presley Spectacular on Friday, May 12 (7:30pm) staring Rob Kingsley, promises to be a breath-taking recreation of a live Elvis concert featuring many of The King’s hits including It’s Now Or Never, Suspicious Minds, Return To Sender, GI Blues, The Wonder Of You, American Trilogy and many, many more.  

Knuckles starring Paul Black, on Thursday, May 18 (7:30pm) is a Gurnwah Productions and RCT Theatres co-production and is a dark and gritty story based loosely on true events, about the life of Victor ‘The Knuckles’ Norman and one man’s rise and fall.  

Dirty Dusting, the hilarious comedy starring Chrissy Rock (Benidorm), Leah Bell, Vanessa Karon and featuring Paul Dunn on Saturday, June 17 (7:30pm) follows the antics of three ‘vintage style’ cleaning ladies who come up with an ingenious way of earning extra cash.  

Meanwhile, at the Park & Dare Theatre, Treorchy, Made in Dagenham is the first live production of the year on February 14-16 brought to you by the talented cast and crew from Treorchy Comprehensive School.  

Comedian Tom Allen bring his sell-out show to Treorchy on Thursday, February 23 (8pm) fresh from the success of his last UK tour which sold over 50,000 tickets, including a sell-out show at the London Palladium. Tickets for his Treorchy performance have also all sold out.  

Lee Gilbert: That’s Life! on Saturday, March 11 (6pm) will be joined by special guests to breathe new life into Michael Buble’s smash hits and some of the biggest songs from the West End and Broadway.  

TV favourite Mike Bubbins on Thursday, March 16 (8pm) brings his Throwback show to the stage – a night of stand-up comedy from the star of Mammouth, Tourist Trap and The Unexplainers.  

Status Quo legend Francis Rossi will be bringing his acoustic guitar along on Tuesday, May 30 (7:30pm) to perform many of the band’s greatest hits and to chat about his amazing career which spans over 50 years, including the opening performance at Live Aid in 1985.
