Culvert repair scheme to get underway in Ynysybwl

Mill Road culvert

A localised road closure is needed at Mill Road in Ynysybwl to deliver culvert improvements over the next four weeks.

Work will begin from Monday, August 5, to construct a blockstone cascade that will transport rainwater from an elevated culvert located on an embankment, to the water channel below.

The scheme is designed to prevent scour damage from occurring during periods of heavy rainfall.

This is the second phase of works at this location, following culvert lining and wall repairs that were completed last year.

The work requires a road closure at Mill Road, between its junction with Heol y Mynach and no.1 Aberffrwd. An alternative route is via Mill Road, Pleasant View and Heol-y-Mynach.

The closure will be in operation from 9am to 5pm on Mondays to Fridays – between August 5 and September 2.

Access will be maintained for pedestrians but not for emergency service vehicles. Cyclists are advised to dismount and take the pedestrian route.

The Council has appointed Hammond (ECS) Limited as the contractor to deliver the work.

The scheme will be delivered using dedicated Welsh Government funding for Storm Dennis repairs in 2024/25.
