Primary school pupils in Ynyswen are now able to enjoy fantastic new outdoor learning and play facilities at their school – following a significant investment by the Council that will also benefit the wider community.
Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg Ynyswen has received an outdoor classroom and teaching space, a small play area, a green space, a Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) and a walking and running track. The vibrant new spaces are built on the site of the former infants’ block, that had previously been demolished.
The modern facilities have been delivered using Council capital funding, with the project having been included in last year’s Education Capital Programme.
The Council’s contractor South Wales Sports Grounds has recently completed the final installation work, and the outdoor facilities are now being enjoyed each day by pupils and staff at the Welsh Medium primary school – as well as those attending the local childcare provision, Cylch Meithrin Nant Dyrys.
The new facilities are also intended to benefit the wider community, with various local organisations being able to access them at agreed times. Arrangements are currently being finalised to facilitate this community use.
Councillor Rhys Lewis, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Cabinet Member for Education, Youth Participation and the Welsh Language, said: “These superb new outdoor spaces at Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg Ynyswen were made possible thanks to Council capital funding – representing an investment of around £170,000 for the school, the Cylch Meithrin, and the wider community.
“The facilities were delivered working closely with the School Council, and have transformed the site of the former infant school block into bright and colourful spaces that pupils can enjoy – whether that’s participating in sport, playing, or outdoor learning. Such projects for our Welsh Medium schools support the outcomes outlined in our Welsh in Education Strategic Plan.
“I’m pleased that the project has recently been completed in time for the better weather that the spring and summer months bring. I’m looking forward to visiting pupils and staff at Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg Ynyswen very soon – to see how the new spaces are being enjoyed and to officially open the site.”
