How it works
If you are a care leaver under the age of 25, either living alone or with another adult over the age of 18, you can apply for a care leavers council tax discount or exemption.
Who it is for (eligibility)
You can get care leavers discount or exepmtion if you are:
- aged 18 to 24
- a category 3 young person as defined by section 104 of the Social Services and Well-being (Wales) Act 2014(5)
Apply
To apply you will need to:
- Download and print the Care leaver application form.

Call our contact centre on 01443 425002 to request an application to be posted to you.
- Complete and sign section 1 of the form.
- Get your Personal Advisor to complete and sign section 2 of the form.
- Send the completed form to:

You must continue to pay your current Council Tax bill while the outcome of your application is decided.

If you need help applying and would benefit from face to face support, you can book a One4all appointment. You can meet with a member of the team at an RCT library who will support you in completing and submitting the application.
