What is council tax
Council tax is charged to each household in Rhondda Cynon Taf. It helps to pay for local services such as:
- Schools and education
- Children's services
- Adult social care
- Roads and Highways
- Recycling and waste collections
- Emergency planning
- Leisure

Reviewing council tax discounts and reductions
We continually review our records on who receives council tax discounts, reductions and exemptions to make sure that only people who are eligible continue to receive them
Single persons discount review
We regularly review council tax single persons discounts to make sure that people only receive a reduction when they are entitled to it.
We do this by comparing our own records with the records that other agencies hold. If you receive a discount that you are no longer entitled to, we will remove it and backdate it based on the available dates.
If you receive a review letter or email, you must tell us about your current circumstances so we can update our records.
The easiest way to complete your review is online. You will need your:
- unique PIN
- Council Tax account number
- postcode.
You can find these details on the letter or email we sent you.
If you receive a discount that you are no longer entitled to, we will remove the discount and backdate it based on the evidence available. When appropriate, we may apply a financial penalty or take legal action
