On Your Marks!
Registration for the award-winning Nos Galan Road Races opens from September 9, when the first of almost 2,000 coveted spaces will be released.
People from across the UK and beyond will be poised from 10am on Monday, September 9 to secure their places for the races, which continue to grow in popularity and profile year on year.
New for 2019 is the creation of separate men’s and women’s elite races, allowing for a more competitive race as there will be more space on the route.
As with last year a “staggered” registration process with varying time slots has been organised, to give everyone a fair chance to secure their place.

• At 10am on Monday, September 9 all 480 spaces in the children’s races, plus the first 590 spots in the fun run and the first 100 places in the men’s and women’s elite races will be released and can be secured online.

• At 12pm on Monday, September 16, a further 350 fun run spaces and 50 spaces each in the men’s and women’s elite (plus any remaining children's race places) will be released.

• At 6pm on Monday September 23, the remaining 125 fun run spaces and 50 spaces in each of the men’s and women’s elite run (plus any remaining children's race places) will be released.

Due to the ongoing construction of the Cross Valley Link scheme, the 2019 Nos Galan route will remain the same as last year. It will be four laps of the route.

Please take time to view the route video  to familiarise yourselves with it before applying online.

Cllr Ann Crimmings, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment, Leisure and Heritage Services and Chair of the Nos Galan Races Committee, said: “We know Nos Galan 2019 is going to be popular and we have made some changes, based on the feedback of previous participants.

“The introduction of the men’s and women’s elite races means there will be less congestion on the route, making for a more competitive event.

“Due to the working patterns and family lives of potential participants, we are also committed to continuing our staggered registration process, to ensure people have a fair chance at securing a space.

“Last year was the 60th anniversary of the Nos Galan road races, so we have a big act to follow as it was a magical evening. “However, we know the atmosphere in Mountain Ash town centre on New Year’s Eve, including the incredible support shown by local residents, businesses and organisations, will be amazing as it always is.

“You can’t beat the anticipation felt in the town as the mystery runner – already booked and you are going to love them – makes their way into town, following in the footsteps of the legendary Guto Nyth Bran, once reportedly the fastest man in the world.

“There will of course be family fun, fireworks and a funfair, marking the end of 2019 in style and welcoming in 2020!”
