Councillor Steve Powderhill has been appointed Presiding Officer for the ensuing year.
The, elected member for the Treforest Ward since 2012, Councillor Powderhill also served as Mayor of Rhondda Cynon Taf in 2018-19.
Born and raised in the Pontypridd area, and living there all of his life, Councillor Powderhill was educated at Pontypridd Grammar School and Technical College, Rhydyfelin. He has been a professional photographer for over 35 years
The main role of the Presiding Officer is to undertake the administrative functions of the Chair of the Council, formerly carried out by the Mayor.
The Presiding Officer presides over meetings of the full Council and ensures Council meetings are conducted in line with the Council’s Constitution. The Presiding Officer also chairs meetings of the Council’s Corporate Governance and Constitution Committee.
The appointment of a Presiding Officer will now take place on an annual basis at the Council’s Annual General Meeting.
