The Mayor

Councillor Sheryl Evans is the Mayor of Rhondda Cynon Taf, having been appointed by Councillors in their meeting which took place on Wednesday, 12 February 2025.

Councillor Evans, Elected Member for Aberaman, said that she was incredibly proud to represent the County Borough in which she has lived all her life, and will undertake her role as Mayor to benefit local charities and champion community groups. 

Born and raised in the Cynon Valley, she has lived in Aberaman most of her life. She started her career at 16 in a solicitors office, before retiring as a GP Practice Manager to focus on caring for her family.

Councillor Evans has named her daughter Samantha as Consort. Samantha works as a Cardiac Nurse for the NHS and will support Councillor Evans to raise money for charities and support community groups. 

 Councillor Sheryl Evans, Mayor of Rhondda Cynon Taf, speaking following her appointment, said:

“It is a fantastic privilege to be voted to represent Rhondda Cynon Taf as Mayor. I love our local community, which is filled with wonderful people doing incredible things. During my time as Mayor, I will strive to make a difference by highlighting community organisations and groups that are making a real difference in our local area, and help to raise money for local charities who support residents across Rhondda Cynon Taf.

“I’m really looking forward to meeting as many of the community as possible, and using the role as an opportunity to highlight the fantastic work and kindness across Rhondda Cynon Taf.

“I’m very proud to have my daughter Samantha as my Consort to support my ambitions in the role. I’m proud of her work as a Cardiac Nurse, the compassion and care she shows daily will be a real asset in the role.

“I want to thank everyone in the community for putting their trust in me to represent them, and I will be a Mayor for everyone across Rhondda Cynon Taf.”

The current Mayoral Charities are Greenmeadow Disabled Riding School, 2 Wish Cymru’ Llantrisant, Rhondda Polar Bears Disabled Swimming, Dementia & Alzheimer’s Society, and also supporting the Taff Ely Veterans’ in Rhydyfelin.

Also appointed at meeting on Wednesday, February 12^th, was Rhondda Cynon Taf Deputy Mayor, Councillor Emma Watts, Elected Member for Ystrad Ward.
