Local Flood Risk Management Strategy

This consultation is an opportunity for the public to get involved and help develop the draft revised Local Flood Risk Management Strategy for Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council (RCTCBC / the Council). As part of the consultation process, we welcome comments from our risk partners, employees of RCTCBC and members of the public and neighbouring authorities. This is your opportunity to influence how RCTCBC will manage the risk of flooding from local sources for the next 6 years.

The draft Local Flood Risk Management Strategy will also have future public consultation.

This consultation will run for 6 weeks from 13th December 2022 to 24th January 2023.

Background

Under the Flood and Water Management Act 2010, Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council became a Lead Local Flood Authority (LLFA) and was given the duty to develop, maintain, apply and monitor a strategy for local flood risk management, i.e., a Local Flood Risk Management Strategy. Local flood risk is defined as being a flood risk from surface runoff, groundwater and ordinary watercourses.

The Strategy must be consistent with the National Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management Strategy, take account of current policy and reflect the aspirations and priorities of other partners with responsibilities for FCERM along with the wider needs of communities, the economy and the environment.

The Local Strategy details the objectives and measures that have been developed to outline how the Authority intends to manage flood risk within the life of this particular strategy and sets out to adopt a holistic approach to flood risk management.

It is the duty of Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council to review its current Local Flood Risk Management Strategy to align with the National Strategy’s objectives, measures and related policies and legislation.
