Our vision is an age-friendly Wales that supports people of all ages to live and age well. We want to create a Wales where everyone looks forward to growing older. (Welsh Government)
What are age-friendly communities?
Everyone in Wales should be able to age well. In an age-friendly community older people feel valued, included and respected and can
- get out and about
- do things that they want to do
- lead healthy and active lives
- stay informed
- have their voices heard
Age Friendly Rhondda Cynon Taf
In Rhondda Cynon Taf working with our older people in communities across the county borough, older residents are supported to establish and sustain age friendly activity which enhances wellbeing and enables residents to age well.
An ageing, healthy population that have a sense of belonging and which are supported by their community is something to be celebrated and we are proud of the outstanding work that has already taken place, and which will continue in our communities, confirming our commitment to working with partners in order to make Rhondda Cynon Taf a better place for us all as we grow older.
WHO Global Network
The World Health Organisation Global Network for Age-friendly Cities and Communities was established in 2010 to connect cities, communities, and organisations across the world with the common vision of making their community a great place to grow older.
In Wales the Older People’s Commissioner supports this work, pledging to make Wales the best place in the world to grow older and is working throughout Wales to encourage and support the development of age-friendly communities.
Working with our partners, across the Rhondda Cynon Taf area using established networks, including RCT Community Support Steering Group, Neighbourhood Networks, 50+ Forums and Older Persons Advisory Group, Rhondda Cynon Taf has successfully gained membership of the Global Network of Age Friendly Cities and Communities this brings opportunities to:
- Share good practice and inspire other communities
- Connect with other Age Friendly Cities and Communities across the globe to share information, knowledge, and experience
- Learn from others and discover innovative evidence-based solutions to challenges faced by older people
All with the aim of improving the lives of older people across Rhondda Cynon Taf.
