The Council has provided an update on the process of securing tenants for its new modern business unit development in Robertstown – and is delighted to confirm that leases are signed for nine of the 20 units to date.
Construction of the major Cynon Valley development was completed before Christmas, bringing the unused land off Wellington Street back into use. It has created 20 industrial buildings ranging from traditional to hybrid units, which vary in size from 1,000 to 1,700 sq ft. They were delivered via £3.36m funding from the European Regional Development Fund through Welsh Government.
The Council has actively marketed the units with its consultants JLL and has received significant interest. Many of the leases have been completed in recent weeks with tenants now confirmed for nine of the units, with two further units under offer. The confirmed tenants for nine of the units are listed below:
- Unit 1 – South Wales Computer Supplies
- Unit 7 – M L Crane Services Ltd
- Unit 8 – Dec-Elec Ltd
- Unit 9 – WesMec
- Unit 16 – Rheidol Electrical Services Ltd
- Unit 17 – Grey Trees Brewery
- Units 18, 19 and 20 – Grey Trees Brewery
The Council can also confirm it has received a good level of interest in the remaining units, which provide modern business opportunities for a range of uses. News about securing further tenants will be shared in future updates.
Councillor Mark Norris, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Cabinet Member for Development and Prosperity, said: “I’m very pleased that the Council has now secured tenants for almost half of the available spaces at the new modern unit development in Robertstown. It’s also good news that we continue to have a positive level of interest in the remaining 11 units, including two which are under offer. It shows that this type of flexible business accommodation was needed in the local area.
“The Council has welcomed the £3.36m funding previously secured from the European Regional Development Fund, on a Joint Venture scheme with Welsh Government. The modern units have revitalised the key employment site in Robertstown, which is included within the Local Development Plan. It follows the £2.58m business unit created at Parc Coed-Elái at Coed Ely in 2021, which also benefitted from significant European funding.
“The majority of the new tenants at the Robertstown development are local to the Cynon Valley area, and they have either been able to relocate to the site or expand their business utilising the new units. Some of the companies have relocated from a home office environment, which again highlights the demand for the units and demonstrates how they are contributing to the economy.
“I’d like to welcome the companies occupying the first nine units in Robertstown and wish them well for their move to the site. The Council will keep residents up to date with news of any new tenants secured for the remaining units.”
