The popular event makes its return to Ynysangharad War Memorial Park in Pontypridd on August 5th and 6th with over 50 food stalls, free entertainment including live cookery demonstrations with local chefs, beer garden and so much more!
This year, there’s even more to celebrate as Ynysangharad War Memorial Park celebrates its centenary on Sunday 6th August. Pontypridd Male Voice Choir, Pontypridd Community Choir, and Sound of Wales Acapella are all lined up to perform on the bandstand. Other free activities will include heritage walks with tour guides, sporting activities and fun archaeological and history activities from the Council’s Heritage Service.
Councillor Maureen Webber, Deputy Leader of the Council and Cabinet Member for Business said:
The Big Welsh Bite is the biggest event in our busy annual events calendar and it’s fantastic to be able to support and showcase local businesses whilst providing free entertainment for residents and visitors - all in one weekend! The 2022 event was difficult to plan with many food suppliers only just starting to get back on their feet following Covid restrictions. Despite this, the event attracted 30 000 people into Pontypridd. This year, applications for stalls have flooded in and the centenary celebrations for Ynysangharad War Memorial Park can only help to make this event a really great weekend for the people of Rhondda Cynon Taf and visitors to our County Borough.
The event is open 11am – 5pm both days, entry is free and there will be live arena acts, details of which will be announced at www.bigwelshbite.co.uk and @whatsonrct social media channels.
Serving up their dishes in the kitchen demonstration area will be local chefs who will be joined, as always, by the Big Welsh Bite’s resident chef, Geoff Tookey.
The Beer Garden will host ciders, beers, ales and spirits from local producers such as Grey Trees Brewery, Hensol Castle Distillery and Gwynt Y Ddraig.
There’s also a great range of craft and information stalls and plenty of items which can be purchased to enjoy at home.
Visitors can also enjoy the wider surroundings of Ynysangharad War Memorial Park, home to Lido Ponty and the huge Lido Play adventure playground or pop into historic Pontypridd and have a browse in the shops. Pontypridd BID will also have a stand at the event so visitors can pop in to find out about eateries in the town itself.
Big Welsh Bite 2023 is sponsored by Nathaniel Cars, who have been keeping the residents of Rhondda Cynon Taf and beyond on the road for more than 35 years, with their friendly and professional branches in Cardiff and Bridgend.
Keen to show their support and appreciation for the community, they have sponsored a range of What’s On RCT events in 2023, bringing fun and entertainment to people.
