Due to the excellent progress made on the Maindy Road bridge scheme in Ton Pentre, the work is now complete and the road closure was lifted this afternoon.
The image above was taken on Friday morning (November 10) showing the lining works being completed, before the road then reopened before 3pm.
Work to replace the structure on the B4223, near the police station and just south of the junction with The Parade, has been completed around six weeks ahead of the original schedule.
Following the recent installation of the bridge parapets, the road has been resurfaced in recent days.
The Council’s contractor has now completed finishing works and has vacated the site.
In our previous progress update, it was noted that ongoing work by Wales & West Utilities will continue beyond the Council’s bridge replacement scheme. This will require limited traffic management located north of the bridge at Maindy Crescent, to complete essential gas main protection work.
We’d like to thank the community for its cooperation during this essential bridge replacement.
The work has future-proofed the Maindy Road bridge and prevented a potential emergency closure over a longer period in the future.
