Click or Call and We'll Collect Your Winter Greens!

Rhondda Cynon Taf Council will soon be improving its current Winter Green Waste Collections by offering a NEW bookable, free, bespoke service during the less busy winter period (November – March).

From October 30th, 2023, registered residents will simply need to click or call to book a green waste collection and we’ll collect it from the kerbside.

During the Winter period the Council collects green waste from only 12% of registered households. The new click or call booking system will ensure that collection crews are only collecting from the households that need it, reducing unnecessary journeys, fuel costs and carbon emissions.

The introduction of the sustainable and reusable green sacks in 2021 has already resulted in the Council reducing its overall single use plastic bag usage by around 3 million clear bags annually, and these improvements will make your services even ‘greener’.

All you will need to do is simply continue putting your green waste recycling in the GREEN re-usable sack and click or call to book your collection when you need it!

From week commencing Monday 30th October, the Council will be improving its Winter Green Waste Recycling Collections by offering a free, bespoke booking service during the Winter months to already registered households.

Bookings will then normally take place on their current recycling collection day.

If you haven’t registered for the service, but would like to start getting collections, registering for the service is quick and easy and can be done in a few minutes at www.rctcbc.gov.uk/Greenwaste or by calling 01443 425001. Residents will then receive their TWO FREE sacks to start green waste recycling.

Extra/replacement bags are available but will be subject to a £3 charge per bag.

The green waste collection sacks can be used for green waste, such as grass, cuttings, twigs cut to a manageable size and small vegetarian animal waste. The Council WON’T collect soil, rubble, clodges or wood as part of this collection. Animal waste should only include sawdust/hay and no other animal waste such as dog waste and cat litter. The sacks MUST NOT be overfilled.

ALL Community Recycling Centres accept green waste recycling, no matter how small or big but it MUST NOT be in a clear recycling bag and tipped loose into the available container. Community Recycling Centres will be operating under winter opening times(8am-5.30pm) from Monday 30th October.

Please Note: The Winter Green Waste collection service will be suspended from w/c Monday 25th December with normal services resuming on Monday 15th January 2024.

Real Christmas Tree collection bookings will take place as normal from December and will need to be booked online at www.rctcbc.gov.uk/ChristmasTrees. This is separate from the bookable Winter Green Waste Recycling service.

Steve Owen, Service Director for Streetcare Services said:

“The changes to the Winter Green Waste Collection service will help reduce the Council’s carbon footprint and bring us closer to our goal of recycling 70% of all household waste by 2024/25. This small change will also improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the rounds. I hope that residents will join us to make a difference not just locally, but globally.”

Kerbside collections will return during the summer months and registered residents will automatically receive a collection and WON’T need to book collections.
