Highway work on mountainside route between Graigwen and Llanwonno

roads two

The Council has been advised that the mountain route between Graigwen and Llanwonno (Pen-y-wal Road) will be closed from Wednesday, for essential work to the highway.

The road closure will run from the top of Graigwen Road to the northernmost point of Pen-y-wal Road – at the junction just south of Llysnant farm. The closure area is shown on the following map.

The closure is required by the Llanwonno Wind Farm, and will run from Wednesday, August 14, to Friday, September 20.

The work will widen the road at specific points, to enable an abnormal load delivery to the windfarm that is planned for a future date.

During the closure, an alternative route for motorists will be via Rock Terrace, Clydach Road, Windsor Place, Robert Street, New Road, B4273 Ynysybwl Road, Berw Road, Morgan Street, Gelliwastad Road, Gelliwastad Grove, Thomas Street, Graigwen Place and Graigwen Road.

Access will be maintained for emergency services and pedestrians, along with residents’ vehicles and farm vehicles. The contractor has advised that cyclists can use the closure section, but should proceed with caution.

Enquiries about the closure arrangements can be directed to the Llanwonno Wind Farm contractor Knights Brown, available via talktous@knightsbrown.co.uk or on 01656 667601.

Thanks to road users and local communities in advance for your cooperation.
