UPDATE – 16/12/24. The closures for Monday and Tuesday nights (Dec 9-10) were cancelled. Work went ahead on Wednesday and Thursday nights (Dec 11-12) and the scheme was substantially completed.
Road users are advised that the section of road between Abercynon Roundabout and Fiddler’s Elbow Roundabout will be closed for essential works, over four consecutive nights.
The work is required for the permanent removal of the cattle grid on this section of the A472 – and has been scheduled at night to significantly minimise disruption.
This will take place from 8pm each evening until 4am the following morning – from Monday, December 9, to Thursday, December 12. The final closure will therefore end at 4am on Friday, December 13.
The road will be closed in both directions. A map showing the closure area and alternative route is included on the Council’s website, here.
An alternative route for motorists will be clearly signposted in both directions.
It will be available via the A470, Bridge Street Roundabout, Coedpenmaen Road, A4054 Merthyr Road, Cilfynydd Road, and Fiddler’s Elbow Roundabout.
Access will be maintained for emergency services and to premises, but will not be maintained for pedestrians.
The work is reliant upon fair weather to proceed. Any changes to the above arrangements will be shared on the Council’s social media accounts.
Thanks to road users for your cooperation.
