Rhondda Cynon Taf Council is pleased to announce a fun-filled calendar of events for 2024 – the year we welcome the National Eisteddfod of Wales to the county borough!
The fun kicks off at Rhondda Heritage Park Museum on 27th & 28th of March when the Easter Bunny takes over with Easter Egg-stravaganza. This year the event will have some fantastic new additions – keep your eyes peeled for more details on those. Ticket release dates will be announced soon.
Aberdare Festival rolls into Aberdare Park on 25th May and if you go down to the park, you’re sure of a big surprise as the popular Teddy Bears’ Picnic event joins the festival for the first time. This year, Teddy Bears’ Picnic will be travelling around Rhondda Cynon Taf and Aberdare Festival is the first stop on its tour. Including live music, fun fair, children’s entertainment, food and craft stalls, Aberdare Festival is always a great part of our annual events calendar. Don’t forget you can find out all about Aberdare Festival at www.aberdarefestival.co.uk which will be updated as soon as all activities are confirmed.

You may notice that there’s no Big Welsh Bite food festival this year as the event takes a break for one year only to make way for one of Europe’s largest cultural festivals – the National Eisteddfod of Wales. The Eisteddfod will be held in Pontypridd with the Maes located in the beautiful Ynysangharad War Memorial Park. Keep up to date on all things related to the Eisteddfod here. The Big Welsh Bite will return to its usual spot in Ynysangharad War Memorial Park, Pontypridd in August 2025.
Cllr Maureen Webber, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Council Business, said:
Our annual events calendar is always something to look forward to. Last year over 100,000 residents and visitors to our county borough came along to enjoy a huge range of activities ranging from musical performances at Aberdare Festival, to classic cars at Rhondda Heritage Park Museum. This year we look forward to welcoming thousands more as we welcome the National Eisteddfod of Wales to Pontypridd. Our events calendar runs all year and will culminate, as always, on New Year’s Eve in Mountain Ash as runners from all over the country take part in the world-famous Nos Galan Road Races. We look forward to welcoming you to one or indeed all, of our events this year.
Details of all events will be available on @whatsonrct facebook, X and Instagram social media accounts and at www.rctcbc.gov.uk/whatson.
