A retaining wall repair scheme near Aberdare Town Centre has now been completed ahead of schedule, enabling the adjacent footway closure to be lifted.
Work started in early March 2025 to repair the large structure, located on the stretch of the A4233 between Gadlys Roundabout and the roundabout near Tesco/McDonald’s.
The wall provides a boundary to the rear of several properties at Gadlys Gardens, and a series of repairs were required to future-proof the structure.
They have included replacing the coping stones across the wall, replacing the expansion joint material, and reconstructing defective concrete block work to the rear of the structure.
Damaged masonry stonework has also been completed to the wall’s front face, along with localised vegetation clearance.
The scheme was anticipated to be completed during June 2025, but the Council’s contractor Hammond ECS has recently completed all works ahead of schedule.
These repairs have been funded by the Council’s ongoing Highways Capital Programme.
Thanks to residents for your cooperation, including using the alternative pedestrian route – enabling this local repair scheme to be safely delivered.
