On 2nd December, members of the Councils Employment, Education and Training team attended FishmongersHall in London to formally receive the Princess Royal Training Award. The award comes as part of the commitment to training and development that the Councils RCT Apprentice and Graduate Schemes provide. This recognition honours the commitment to delivering outstanding training and development, something that the Council prides itself upon.

Since 2012, the Council has been providing quality and accessible employment opportunities to the community through the Apprenticeship and Graduate Schemes. Since 2020 alone, over 194 apprentices and 114 Graduates have been employed across the Council, with many choosing to stay and pursue successful careers.

Amber Timol, Marketing Officer at Rhondda Cynon Taf Council, said: “I have recently completed the 2-year Apprenticeship Scheme and am now full time within the Council. The apprenticeship allowed me to pursue a new career path, develop new skills and gain a qualification with the benefit of having a full-time job. The support I have received from both my team and the Employment, Education and Training team has been fantastic throughout and I’ve been given so many opportunities to put my newfound knowledge into practice. I would encourage anyone to consider the Apprenticeship or Graduate Schemes as they offer so much personal development and open new doors.”

Councillor Maureen Webber BEM, Deputy Leader of Rhondda Cynon Taf Council, said:  “This is a testament to the dedication of our Employment, Education and Training team in creating meaningful opportunities, nurturing talent, and delivering real impact for our workforce through the Councils Apprenticeship and Graduate Programmes.

“Since 2020, 194 Apprentices have already benefitted from the training and development opportunities that form an integral part of the scheme, with the 2023 intake now celebrating the end of their scheme and moving on to start successful careers.

“We’re proud that between 2012-2024, 100% of our Apprentices achieved their full qualification framework and 93% secured employment once their scheme finished, with over 79% of these securing employment within the Council, while others went into external employment or further learning.”

The Graduate Programme opens in the winter, and the Apprenticeship Scheme opens in the spring, ready for a new cohort of individuals to learn key skills, develop professionally and bring fresh ideas to service areas across the Council.

Keep an eye on our webpage and social media pages in the new year for our next batch of Graduate opportunities.
