A footway closure will be required from next week at the busy pictured location in Aberdare, as an essential measure to repair damage to a retaining wall.
The structure is located next to the A4233, on the stretch of road between Gadlys Roundabout and the adjacent roundabout near Tesco/McDonalds. It provides a boundary to the rear of several properties at Gadlys Gardens.
From Monday, March 3, the footway next to the wall will be brought out of use, so the work can be completed safely. No traffic management is required.
There is no footway on the opposite side of the road, so it is important that pedestrians use the signposted pedestrian route via the Tesco Access Road, Depot Road and Gadlys Road.
A map of the footway closure, and the alternative route, is shown on the following flyer that has been distributed to local residents.
Access to the footway will be maintained for emergency service vehicles.
Repairs to the wall will include replacing sections of defective concrete blockwork, and replacing the full length of copings. The work is anticipated to be completed in June 2025.
The scheme will be delivered by contractor Hammond ECS, and is funded via the Council’s Highways Capital Programme.
Thanks to the community in advance for your cooperation.
