Planned maintenance work to bridge in Abercynon next week

Royal Oak Bridge

A road closure is required at the pictured bridge at Goitre-Coed Road in Abercynon, to complete a repair and maintenance scheme that will last up to one week.

The Royal Oak Bridge will close in the morning on Monday, March 3, when a signposted diversion route will come into effect. Please note, the diversion route is partly located in Merthyr Tydfil County Borough through Quakers Yard.

The closure is essential to safely replace the bridge deck joint and carry out other maintenance works, which will be delivered by contractor Hammond ECS.

An alternative route for motorists is via Fairview Terrace, Lock Street, Glancynon Terrace, B4275, A4054, Fiddler’s Elbow Roundabout, Cardiff Road, Rodericks Terrace, and Goitre-Coed Road.

A map showing this route, and the closure area, has been included on the Council’s website.

Access will not be maintained for emergency service vehicles, but will be maintained for pedestrians and to premises. Cyclists are advised to dismount and use the pedestrian access.

Please note, while Royal Oak Bridge provides a crossing above the A4059, there will be no disruption to this major commuter route.

The scheme is being delivered using Council revenue funding.

Thanks to residents and road users in advance for your cooperation.
