Ongoing pedestrian facility improvements in Hirwaun move onto next location

Hirwaun Safe Routes

Work as part of the Hirwaun Safe Routes in Communities scheme has this week progressed to a new location – the pictured section of Rhigos Road and Brecon Road.

Phase two of the Welsh Government-funded scheme started in November 2024, and work to install a new safe crossing point at High Street and Davies Row has progressed well.

New infrastructure has been put in place, and the new crossing will be brought into use following final resurfacing at the end of the overall scheme.

Calibre Contracting Ltd has now moved onto the second location (Rhigos Road/Brecon Road) from this week, commencing January 6, 2025.

Work to install a new zebra crossing will take place over the next six weeks, with temporary traffic lights required to make progress with some elements of the work.

The contractor will employ this traffic management outside of the peak travel periods, to minimise local disruption.

The third and final element of the scheme will then follow on – to upgrade the existing pedestrian crossing at the junction of Brecon Road and Harris Street, along with additional safety measures.

Further details about the Hirwaun Safe Routes in Communities scheme were communicated at the start of the works. The information can be found here.

The overall scheme is still on course for completion in spring 2025.

Thanks to the community for your continued cooperation.
