Local culvert improvement scheme funded by Welsh Government now underway

Dan y Cribyn - Copy

Work has started on a local flood alleviation scheme at the Dan Y Cribyn housing estate, to deliver a significant investment for the community.

The Welsh Government scheme is being delivered in two phases of work, covering the whole area of the housing estate, which will be completed during August 2025.

The scheme will carry out re-lining work across the culverted length of the ordinary watercourse network.

It follows a review of the asset surveys undertaken within the area, and the work intends to reduce flood risk to several ordinary watercourses and their associated culvert network.

The Council has appointed Arch Utilities Services as the main contractor to deliver the work, and day-to-day disruption to the community is expected to be minimal.

However, towards the end of the works, a day-time road closure (9am-4pm) will be needed at Old Parish Road – from Monday, August 4, for up to two weeks. Access to premises will be maintained during the closure, but there will be no through access for pedestrians nor emergency services.

The two combined phases of work represent an investment of almost £600,000 to improve local resilience to flooding.

Funding has been secured from Welsh Government’s Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management Small Scale Works Grant programmes to deliver both phases of work.

Thanks to the community in advance for your cooperation.
