Second scheme to resurface Church Village Bypass roundabout

Gwaun Meisgyn grid - Copy

Resurfacing at Gwaun Meisgyn roundabout on the ChurchVillage Bypass will take place during three overnight work shifts, starting from Wednesday.

A similar scheme is currently progressing at the nearby A473 Nant Dowlais roundabout, with those works being carried out over three nights this week (Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, July 20-22).

Once that scheme is completed, attention will turn to the pictured A473 Gwaun Meisgyn roundabout – which will also require similar temporary road closures at night.

The work will take place from 7pm to 4am on each of the three nights, starting from 7pm on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday (July 23-25) respectively. All work will therefore be completed by 4am on Saturday, July 26.

The pictured roundabout will close, along with the immediate sections of road from it – as outlined on the following map.

For the indicated closures of A473 Church Village Bypass, an alternative route will be available via Rhiwsaeson roundabout, Main Road roundabout, Cardiff Road, Cross Inn Road, High Street, Newbridge Road, B4595 Llantrisant Road, Gwaunmiskin Road, Tynant Road, Parish Road, Woodlands, Crown Hill, and Nant Dowlais roundabout. This route is also shown on the above map.

The resurfacing work is being funded via the Council’s 2025/26 Highways Capital Programme – which has earmarked £7.5 million to maintain and improve roads and footways throughout this year.

Access will be maintained for emergency service vehicles, but cannot be maintained for pedestrians or to premises.

Thanks to residents and road users for your cooperation.
