Please note, Duke Street Car Park in Aberdare will reopen tomorrow after the final resurfacing element of a major improvement scheme.
The Council started work in early September 2025 to undertake pedestrian access and drainage improvements, along with the main resurfacing activity that encompasses the entire car park. This has involved the current blockwork being removed, with some of the existing paving blocks having been installed almost 30 years ago – many of which had become loose or started to sink.
Much of the works were undertaken while the car park remained open, but the facility was closed last week to undertake the final resurfacing works.
The Council can now confirm that Duke Street Car Park will reopen as usual on Thursday, November 20.
Thanks to the residents and visitors to Aberdare for your cooperation during a two-day extension to the works, as a result of lost time during the Amber weather warning (Storm Claudia) last week.
While the overall scheme is now substantially complete, car park users may notice some minor finishing works in the weeks ahead – but this will not effect the use of the facility.
The scheme has been delivered using funding through the Council’s ongoing capital programme, and has ensured this well-used town centre car park will remain available into the future.
Thanks to town centre residents, businesses and visitors for your cooperation during the works.
