A local flood alleviation scheme at the Dan Y Cribyn housing estate in Ynysybwl has now been completed by the Council, with the second phase of work delivered.
The Welsh Government-funded scheme started on site in early July 2025, covering the whole area of the housing estate – and it represents a significant overall investment of £600,000 to improve flood resilience for the community. The Council has also provided 15% match-funding to deliver these works.
The scheme was carried out in two phases, and has delivered re-lining work across the culverted length of several ordinary watercourses that is designed to reduce flood risk.
Council contractor Arch Utilities Services has completed the second phase of works in the week commencing Monday, November 3.
The Council delivered this scheme via Welsh Government’s Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management Small Scale Works Grant programme – with £2.83 million funding secured for Rhondda Cynon Taf in 2025/26.
In addition, £1.69 million is secured from the Small Scale Works Grant this financial year, along with £1.5 million from the Resilient Roads Fund.
Thanks to local residents for your cooperation while the scheme was delivered for the community.
