Aberdare’s Sobell Leisure Centre will benefit from extensive work to its swimming pool next month, as the entire ventilation system is upgraded.
Because the essential works require the closure of the pool and changing rooms for two weeks, staff are hoping to take advantage of this to complete further improvements to the changing rooms.
News of the planned improvements will be welcomed by the public, who have raised concerns about the air temperature in the swimming pool and changing rooms.
The upgraded ventilation system will allow for better temperature management, improving the environment for the customers, an upgraded system will also be more efficient for the centre as a whole.
To enable the works, the swimming pool will be closed from December 1 to December 15. All groups that use the pool, plus swimming lesson customers, have been contacted direct.
The remainder of the centre, including the gym, fitness classes and indoor sports facilities, will stay open as usual, seven days a week.
Members of the public looking to swim during the closure period are encouraged to visit nearby Abercynon or Ferndale swimming pools. You can check timetables and opening hours of all Leisure for Life pools here:
Cllr Scott Emanuel, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Cabinet Member with responsibility for Leisure, said: “The improvement works, which will benefit customers and the overall efficiency of the centre when complete, are significant and essential.
“We are investing in the future of Sobell Leisure Centre and also meeting the needs and requests of our customers.
“The work will require a closure of the swimming pool, which we recognise is inconvenient, but we thank customers in advance for their patience and cooperation as we work to improve their centre.”
