The Council has recently completed works on a drainage improvement scheme in Ystrad, intended to increase resilience to flooding during heavy rainfall.
The Welsh Government-funded scheme off Penrhys Road has now delivered a series of culvert improvements, with the RCT Streetcare Team having started work in June 2025.
An improved access has also been established, to ensure maintenance of the drainage infrastructure can be completed more easily in the future.
The required footpath closures to the Danycoed and Danygraig residential areas have since been lifted.
The Council secured funding for this scheme via Welsh Government’s Small Scale Works Grant – as part of wider £1.69 million funding for Rhondda Cynon Taf in 2025/26.
In addition, £2.83 million is secured from the Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management Programme this financial year, along with £1.5 million from the Resilient Roads Fund.
Thanks to residents in Ystrad for your cooperation while this important scheme was delivered locally.
