The summer the National Lido of Wales, Lido Ponty, turned 10, has come to an end – but, don’t fret, cold water swims ARE BACK for Winter 2025!
It’s been an incredible main season, with almost 100,000 people booking for early morning swims or family fun sessions in the heated outdoor pools of the beloved Pontypridd attraction since Easter time.
It’s also been the year of Lido Ponty’s 10th anniversary.
In August 2015, it re-opened its doors to the public following a £6.3million renovation of the original Art Deco Lido that has stood in the Ynysangharad War Memorial Park since 1927 and has since welcomed 850,000 visitors from all four corners of the world!
The Lido Ponty fun continues as the water temperatures in the outdoor pools is lowered to 14 degrees for the cold water swims, which will run on Saturdays and Sundays between October 18 and November 23.
Tickets for the cold water swims will go on sale at 9am on Monday, October 6 via www.lidoponty.co.uk
Cllr Scott Emanuel, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure for Tourism, said: “What year it has been for our much-loved Lido Ponty! Almost 100,000 visitors in one season and a 10th Anniversary to celebrate as well!
“We are pleased to confirm the return of the cold water swims, which continue to grow in popularity each year.
“We welcome many visitors who only come to Lido Ponty during the cold water swims, using them to train for sporting events or as an alternative to wild swimming.
“But we also see just as many of our regulars, who switch their early morning swims for the cold water swims as well to continue their Lido Ponty experience as long as they can!
“The fact 850,000 people have visited Lido Ponty since it re-opened its doors to the public in 2015 is testament to exceptional experience the venue – and its staff – offer.
“It has firmly been cemented as one of the most popular – and unique – visitor attractions in Wales, welcoming visitors from all over the world since its re-opening.
“Long may that continue and Lido Ponty will keep up the offer with the cold water swims, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day swims before heading into another amazing main season in Easter 2026!”
