Local scheme to reduce the risk of flooding in Cynon Valley community

Brynmair Road FAS - Copy

Residents in Godreaman are advised about a local flood alleviation scheme, which will get underway next week and require a local trail path closure.

Work activity will focus on the Dare Aman trail to the rear of Brynmair Road, plus the area to the rear of numbers 194-196 Brynmair Road.

It will reduce the risk of ordinary watercourse flooding, having a knock-on effect of improving the risk along the length of Brynmair Road and the nearby Cwmaman Road – which is a key local transport route.

The Council has appointed Hammonds ECS Ltd to deliver the works from Monday, September 29 – and it is expected to last around 10 weeks.

The scheme will improve the drainage capacity of the culvert inlet so it can better deal with surface water, while two BT poles will be diverted to accommodate the changes.

There will also be access upgrades to support the long-term maintenance of the inlet, including any emergency access requirements – achieved through some vegetation clearance.

The closure to the Dare Aman trail will start on September 29. A local pedestrian diversion route will be signposted – via Valley View Street, Duffryn Street, Jubilee Road and Bynmair Road, or this route in reverse order.

The scheme is being funded by Welsh Government’s Small Scale Works Programme, with match funding from the Council.

Thanks to the community in advance for your cooperation during the works.
