All works have now been completed to implement important road safety improvements at Station Road’s junction with Oxford Street in Maerdy, responding to recent vehicle incidents at this location.
The pictured bend at the bottom of Maerdy Mountain leading to Maerdy Road has experienced several road traffic collisions – including a recent notable incident in April 2025 where a vehicle collided heavily with a residential property.
In working with South Wales Police to better understand why one-vehicle collisions have kept happening at this location, officers designed a road safety improvement scheme and earmarked Council capital funding for its delivery.
The work started in mid-June 2026 and has now been delivered by Calibre Contracting Ltd – introducing measures to improve highway safety and highlight the 20mph speed limit at this location.
Works have included the installation of containment kerbs, reflective bollards and improved signage, while an uncontrolled crossing point has been installed and the existing double-yellow lines along Oxford Street and Station Road have been extended.

All temporary traffic management used to deliver the scheme has now been lifted.
