Thank you to everyone who took part in the recent consultation about the proposed investment in Ysgol Gyfun Cwm Rhondda in Cymer!
As part of that exercise, we held a public ‘drop-in’ event at the school in January, when around 40 people came along, found out more, and shared their views! They were made up of local residents, staff, pupils, and community representatives.
The Council has used that feedback to finalise the final planning application, which was submitted recently.
Residents now have a further opportunity to have their say as part of the statutory planning process. Find out more via the planning portal on the Council’s website.
The application includes an exciting fly-through video, shown in part here, which gives an indication about how the new school could look!
The proposed investment would provide a new 11-19 Welsh Medium secondary school on the current site, with a modern and fully-accessible new build development. The project will also provide suitable areas for outdoor learning and new sports facilities that will be available for school and community use.
Kier Construction is the Council’s appointed contractor for the proposed development, which will be jointly delivered by the Council and Welsh Government through its Sustainable Communities for Learning programme.
The Cymer project is one of nine investments included in a joint £414 million funding commitment for the years ahead – with a new Additional Learning Needs school in Clydach Vale (Ysgol Cambrian) and an ultra-sustainable school for Glyn-coch (Ysgol Gynradd Glyn-coch) set to open later this year.
