Rhondda Cynon Taf Council is excited to announce the launch of the Pontypridd Hub for Veterans, a new weekly drop-in taking place at Calon Taf, Ynysangharad War Memorial Park (CF37 4PE). The launch event will take place on Friday, February 27 at 11.30am, and the hub will run every Friday from 11.30am to 1pm.

Open to the whole Armed Forces community – including veterans, serving personnel, Reservists and family members – the hub will provide a safe and welcoming space with hot drinks, a breakfast roll, and one-to-one advice and support from a range of Armed Forces organisations and charities.

Each week will feature different wellbeing activities and opportunities to get involved in park-based projects and remembrance events. There is no booking required for the sessions and parking is available nearby.

Councillor Maureen Webber BEM, Deputy Leader of Rhondda Cynon Taf Council and Armed Forces Champion, said: “I am delighted to announce the launch of a friendly, welcoming space where our local Armed Forces community can connect, access support, and take part in wellbeing and remembrance activities close to home.

“Our partner organisations and charities will be on hand to help – whether it’s with welfare, employment, housing, health, or you simply just fancy a cuppa and a chat. The hub will provide hot drinks, a breakfast roll, and free parking nearby.

“If you’re a member of our Armed Forces community, please do drop in.”

Canolfan Calon Taf is a centre which is funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, Welsh Government Transforming Towns, and Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council. Find out more on their website: Home | Calon Taf

Rhondda Cyon Taf is home to more than 7,500 Armed Forces veterans. The Council was among the first Welsh local authorities to sign the Armed Forces Covenant in 2012, reaffirming its commitment in 2018 – symbolising mutual respect between the civilian and Armed Forces communities. In recognition of its support, the Council received the Ministry of Defence’s Employer Recognition Scheme Gold Award in 2017, retaining the accolade in October 2022 after the introduction of the Guaranteed Interview Scheme for Veterans and Reservists.

The Hub complements the Council’s existing Veteran Advice Service which offers free, confidential support for veterans and their families. To speak to dedicated officers in strict confidence, call 07747 485 619 (Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 5pm), or email: VeteranService@rctcbc.gov.uk.
