River wall repairs completed at residential street in Abercynon

River Row

Work to rectify damage to a river wall at a residential street in Abercynon have now been completed, with all traffic management lifted.

The scheme at River Row got underway in mid-January 2026, to rectify a 5-metre section of the structure that was failing, having received storm damage over the past year.

Council contractor Edwards Diving Services has now completed the scheme. The final activity in the week commencing Monday, February 9, was to remove scaffolding from the structure.

The work has underpinned the scour damage at the base of the wall with concrete, providing a stable for foundation for the new masonry structure to be built.

The necessary road closure at River Row has now been lifted following completion of the works. Therefore, vehicles can now access the street once again.

The scheme was delivered using Council capital funding that is set aside for storm repairs.

Thanks to the community, and in particular residents of River Row, for your patience and cooperation while the essential repair scheme was delivered locally.
