Rhondda Cynon Taf Council has welcomed the UK Government’s “Great British Summer Savings” initiative, which will see VAT temporarily reduced on a range of family activities, helping residents enjoy more affordable days out across the County Borough this summer.
From 25 June to 1 September 2026, VAT on eligible attractions, including theatre tickets, concerts, shows and other family-friendly venues, will be reduced from 20% to 5%, alongside savings on children’s meals and other activities designed to boost affordability for families.
The initiative will support local cultural venues, including Park & Dare Theatre, the Coliseum Theatre, and other community-run attractions across Rhondda Cynon Taf, while encouraging residents and visitors to rediscover what the area has to offer!
Councillor Scott Emanuel Cabinet Member for Leisure, Tourism and Culture, said:
“This initiative will make it easier for families to enjoy quality time together during the summer holiday. Lower ticket prices for theatres and local attractions will help more people experience what we have to offer in Rhondda Cynon Taf.
“Our theatres and venues play a vital role in our communities, not only providing entertainment, but supporting jobs, local businesses and the wider visitor economy.

The UK Government’s scheme is designed to ease the cost-of-living pressures facing households while supporting businesses that rely on summer visitors.
The Council continues to invest in its cultural and leisure offer, ensuring accessible and high-quality experiences for all ages and will work with partners and venues across the county borough to promote the offer and ensure residents are aware of the savings available.
