The Council has announced details of 16 face-to-face public events taking place in July – where residents can have their say on the current walking and cycling routes in Rhondda Cynon Taf, along with proposals for the future.
An extensive engagement exercise on the Council’s Active Travel Network Map got underway in May 2026, and will remain open until August. Full details about the consultation can be found on the previous news item. Every Local Authority in Wales is required by Welsh Government to review and update their map regularly – and engaging residents is very important in this process.
Residents can continue to have their say on the Let’s Talk Engagement website, where they’ll find information about current and proposed active travel routes, and a survey to submit feedback. The Council is also committed to hosting public events locally, where residents can meet the team, find out more, and have their say. The following events are confirmed for July 2026:
- Hirwaun Library (10am-1pm – Wednesday, July 1).
- Aberdare Library (2pm-5pm – Wednesday, July 1).
- Pontypridd Library (10am-1pm – Thursday, July 2).

Please note, these are ‘drop-in’ sessions, with residents invited to attend at any point between the given times, rather attending for the whole three-hour period. In addition, extra venues and dates in other communities may be added in due course, and this page will be updated with any new events.
Councillor Andrew Morgan OBE, Cabinet Member with responsibility for Capital Infrastructure, said: “I’m pleased the Council has announced details of 16 community events taking place across July to promote our Active Travel Network Map consultation. We’re encouraging residents to share their local knowledge about existing walking and cycling routes and proposals for new routes, as well as any new ideas for consideration. There are many benefits of encouraging more people to walk and cycle everyday journeys, from reducing traffic congestion, helping the environment, and improving health and well-being – and a key element of this is reviewing and investing in local routes.
“For 2026/27, we’ve received key Welsh Government funding via the Cardiff Capital Region Transport Fund – covering £390,000 for active travel minor works and scheme development, £660,000 to progress the active travel apect of the future Llanharan Sustainable Transport Corridor, and £298,000 for a Safe Routes in Communities scheme in Penywaun. We’ve also recently celebrated the opening of the entire main path of the 10km Rhondda Fach Active Travel route from Maerdy to Tylorstown, while we’ll soon be consulting residents on a new provision from Treorchy to Treherbert in Rhondda Fawr.
“I encourage all interested residents to visit one of our community events to speak to the team, find out more, and access help to complete the survey in person. The wider consultation is continuing through to August 20, with an information resource and the survey available for everyone online.”
