Repairs to large wall structure on main road through Upper Boat

Upper Boat

The Council will begin an important repair scheme to the pictured retaining wall off A4054 Cardiff Road in Upper Boat – with most of the work taking place during the school summer holiday to minimise disruption.

The work programme will include vegetation removal, followed by a partial removal and rebuilding of a small section of the wall where there is defective masonry, plus repointing works.

The scheme will begin from Monday, July 6, lasting around six weeks in total – and two-way traffic lights will be needed for part of the works. These will be manually-operated to ensure efficiency.

The footpath next to the wall will remain open for most of the works, with pedestrian barriers in place around the work areas. No footway restrictions will be in place during the evenings or weekends.

Some of the work activities will require a footway closure and, on these occasions, pedestrians will be directed to use the opposite pavement.

The repairs will be undertaken to separate sections of the wall at a time, rather than cordoning off the entire length of the wall for the duration of the scheme.

The Council has appointed Hammond ECS Ltd as the appointed contractor, with the scheme being delivered using Council revenue funding.

Thanks to the community in advance for accommodating these works.
