Routine maintenance work to get underway at Cefnpennar tip

Cefnpennar tip 2

The Council will shortly undertake routine maintenance work at Cefnpennar tip, with the site being accessed by workers from tomorrow.

Earlier this year, a Welsh Government-funded scheme saw the existing access tracks upgraded on site, to ensure future maintenance activity can be carried out more easily.

Additional funding has now been secured from the Coal Tip Safety Grant in 2026/27 to carry out the upcoming works, which will start from Tuesday, June 16.

The two weeks of work by the RCT Streetcare Team will complete vegetation clearance, as part of the drainage maintenance around channels and culverts. This will also ensure some additional areas of the site can be accessed more easily for future maintenance.

Habitat management will be a key consideration of the site activity, to enhance biodiversity by maintaining open habitat corridors across the site.

The contractor will reach the site using the established access point at Cwmpennar, east of Heol Penrhiw. Residents may notice an increase in construction traffic during the day-time, however, minimal overall disruption is expected to local communities. Limited noise disturbance is possible from the works on site.

The Council has received £13.7 million from Welsh Government’s Coal Tip Safety Grant in 2026/27, enabling our dedicated Tip Safety Team to monitor and maintain Rhondda Cynon Taf coal tips this year – while developing several larger tip safety projects. This follows £11.49 million allocated by the grant last year.

Thanks to the community in advance for accommodating the upcoming scheme at Cefnpennar.
