With its sweeping views and challenging landscapes, exploring Rhondda Cynon Taf by bike is becoming hugely popular.
The Council’s Leisure and Tourism teams are looking to review existing recreational cycling routes – and create supporting leaflets and guides – and wheely need your help!
A new survey has been opened to secure public feedback on the kind of routes people would like to see presented in the leaflet.
The Council would like to understand how people currently use the routes what works well for them and what they would like to see improved.
This includes the use of the routes themselves, as well as the maps, leaflets and online information they currently use to choose and access routes and nearby facilities and attractions.
This could be routes suitable for families with young children, challenging routes or routes that include a food or drink stop along the way.
Issues such as bike storage and access to public transport and parking will also be addressed in the survey, which will then inform the final plans for the leaflets, which will be design to help make cycling easy and accessible for all.
Rhondda Cynon Taf is already home to a range of routes, thanks to the existing National Cycle Network, Taff Trail and other recognised routes and markets.
The new leaflet does not intend to replace existing routes, but instead build on them and ensure access to them – and navigation of them – reflects the needs of residents of all ages and interests.
Completing the survey takes just a few minutes and can be done online here.
Cllr Scott Emanuel, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Cabinet Member for Leisure and Tourism, said: “Hundreds of people take to the trails, roads and routes of Rhondda Cynon Taf every day, enjoying cycling as a hobby – with the stunning views and varied landscapes adding to the experience.
“Our mountain roads, such as the Rhigos and Bwlch, were used as training by Sir Geraint Thomas throughout his professional cycling career simply because they were some of the most challenging, but rewarding in the area.
“We know cycling is something for all the family to enjoy and we are lucky to be home to the brilliant Barry Sidings, which has its own pump track, trails and bike doctor and Dare Valley Country Park, which is home to Gravity, the first ever purpose-built family bike track plus loads of great routes and trails.
“The aim of the survey is to gather as much feedback as we can about what information people need, so we can present the leaflets and guides to them to make the most of beautiful Rhondda Cynon Taf.”
