After another record Summer season welcoming over 110,000 swimmers, the National Lido of Wales, Lido Ponty, is preparing for the start of its cold water swim season.
Tickets for the cold water swims go on sale at 9am on Monday, October 5
The popular winter swims return to the stunning attraction for weekend-only sessions between October 24 and November 28.
The temperature in the outdoor pools will be dropped to 15 degrees for the cold water season, which continues to grow in popularity every year, welcoming swimmers from across the UK.
If you haven’t yet tried cold water swims at Lido Ponty, then 2026 is your chance! The weekend sessions are open to everyone aged 16 and over and you can wear swim hats and mittens/booties or even wetsuits if you prefer.
The sessions have proved popular with casual swimmers, performance swimmers and those preparing for endurance and triathlon events.
The beauty of the Lido Ponty timetable is you can stay in your session for as long as you like – enjoy a quick dip, a few lengths or remain for the entire time.
The indoor changing rooms and showers are heated and toasty warm ready for the end of your swim – you can continue to use the outdoor showers if you prefer.
Plus, beautiful Pontypridd town centre has loads of places you can visit afterwards for a piping hot cup of tea, coffee or hot chocolate or a warming toastie, bowl of soup, pastry or even some spicy street food to bring the heat.
Cllr Scott Emanuel, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Cabinet Member for Communities, Leisure and Culture, said:
“I am delighted to confirm the return of cold water swims, which continue to grow in popularity, year on year. We started them as a pilot to increase the offer at National Lido of Wales, Lido Ponty and people have loved them!
“Over recent years, the advantages of cold water swimming have been linked to a number of health benefits as well as a fantastic social element with many of our cold water swimmers regularly attending. It’s brilliant to see this community growing and supporting each other.
“Lido Ponty provides a safe environment for all abilities and ages to enjoy or experience cold water swimming, and even with a drop in water temperatures there is always a warm welcome.
“It’s been another popular season for Lido Ponty, with over 110,000 swimmers enjoying early morning swims, family fun sessions and the chance to bathe outdoors in beautiful surroundings.
“The beautiful weather meant Lido Ponty was exceptionally busy for its main season and we want to thank the amazing Lido staff for their hard work and, of course, the many swimmers who visited from across Wales and beyond who travelled to Pontypridd to enjoy Lido Ponty.
“Cold water swims will continue into November, before Lido Ponty closes for a few weeks in preparation for the Boxing Day and New Year’s Day events.”
