People often find comfort in placing a memorial for a loved one. Memorials come in many different forms and in Rhondda Cynon Taf we offer a wide range of memorials in an effort to meet the individual needs.
Glyntaff Crematorium
At Glyntaff Crematorium there is a choice of the following memorials:
BENCHES
We no longer offer benches for individual dedication, nor do we allow families to place their own benches in our cemeteries. We offer a new scheme where the Authority will site benches where it feels appropriate and there are four spaces on each bench which can then be commemorated for a ten year period. The Authority will supply, fit and maintain the bench throughout this period. This dedication is renewable and there is a fee. We will write to the last known address to inform you when this happens.
WOODEN CROSSES
We are able to supply a wooden cross with an inscription plaque of three lines. We are able to place the cross on the grave – if within our cemeteries. There is a fee for the cross, but not to place it.
KERB TABLETS
Many of our gardens are edged with memorial tablets which can be dedicated for a ten year period. There are different sized tablets available in the gardens and if you would like to dedicate a tablet we would advise you to contact our Memorial Safety Officer at Glyntaff who will be able to assist in choosing a location and advising on the regulations for that area.
KEEPING IN TOUCH
Because we need to contact you from time to time – perhaps to let you know that a memorial needs to be renewed – it’s important that we hold current contact details for you. You can let us know if anything has changed by contacting our offices on 01443 402810 or by emailing our service at GlyntaffCrematorium@rctcbc.gov.uk
BIO-DIVERSITY
Our valleys and hillsides are home to some important species of flora and fauna and we are working with our conservation teams to encourage and expand on our contribution to this important aspect of our environment. We have already identified some important grassland and wildflower at Cefn y Parc Cemetery and manage this site with Rhondda Cynon Taff’s Conservation Officer. We are identifying new areas of environmental importance and developing new schemes throughout the Borough to improve and encourage our wildlife and wildflower to thrive for future generations.
ARMED FORCES COVENANT
Rhondda Cynon Taff is proud to be a part of the Armed Forces Covenant, committed to improving the lives of our past and present serving officers. Bereavement Services currently recognises the role of our veterans and serving officers by applying a discount to our fees in relation to burial and cremation services when this information is given
INFANTS
Bereavement Services make no charges in respect of interment or cremation for infants, or any person under the age of 18 years. This is in conjunction with the Welsh Assembly Government, who are determined that no parent should have the additional worry of funeral costs when they have lost a child.
RECYCLYING OF METALS
Bereavement Services are a member of the ICCM recycling scheme which allows metals to be collected after the cremation process and to be recycled via an approved carrier with an annual donation made to local death related charities. This year we have donated to the Mayors charity, Velindre Cancer Care.
ROSE BUSHES
Glyntaff has over 12,000 memorialised rose bushes. Cremated remains can be laid to rest at these locations. It is possible to commemorate an available rose bush for ten years for a fee, and a plaque with an inscription of up to 50 letters can be added to the rose bush once dedicated. At the end of the lease it is possible to re-dedicate the rose bush for a further period for a fee.
BOOK OF REMEMBRANCE
A Book of Remembrance is displayed in its own viewing room within the grounds of Glyntaff Crematorium. Entries can be made for any date – a birthday, anniversary or the date of death if you prefer, it is also possible to reserve additional lines for a further inscription – there is a fee for the reservation and you will need to pay for the entry when you make it.
The Book of Remembrance is available to view on the current date 365 days a year. The book room is open Monday to Friday 09:00 to 16:00 and the room is locked overnight and the current book on display is removed to safe keeping overnight.
At the weekend you may need a code to enter the book room and this is available by telephone prior to your visit.
Each book is sent to the calligraphers once a year for additional entries to be made. You are welcome to view an entry not on display or on a different date by arrangement. We will tell you if the book you wish to view is unavailable.
